Plunger Pumps are positive displacement pumps used in industrial applications for clean liquids, where higher pressures at constant flows are required. These pumps may have one or multiple pistons/plungers, which reciprocate during operation. This action is similar to an internal combustion engine where valves open and close, allowing product to enter the cylinder/chamber where the piston or plunger compresses the liquid, and as the discharge/exhaust check valve permits the product to pass into the discharge port. These pumps are used in industrial applications where pressures exceed the capabilities of most gear or other positive displacement pumps.
