NIM-1W - Network Interface Module. A LifeLINK — Network Interface Module Fire Alarm Panel Accessory, the NIM-1W is an MXL option module which provides full peer to peer communication between MXL systems (MMB-1/2’s and their sub-networks). The NIM-1W plugs into a full MOM-4 or MOM-2 card cage slot and communicates directly with the MXL via TTL logic. It also provides a communication trunk path to network up to 64 MXL systems, allowing a system capacity of over 200,000 input points. Each MXL would require a NIM-1W in this configuration. The communication path will support the use of twisted pair copper or fiber optic medium. The communication path can meet the requirements of either Style 4 or Style 7 wiring with all communication paths fully supervised. In an MXL network configuration using the NIM-1W, all individual MXL control panels will be capable of operating in a full standalone mode during any failure of the network communication. Any MXL remaining connected on this network bus will continue to pass information and provide complete inter-panel communication. Each MXL will contain its own integral application programming, which will include the ability to recognize and act upon state changes in any other MXL in the network. The NIM-1W will be capable of communicating all LifeLINK network information to FireFinder, the Network Command Center. The NIM-1W also provides an RS-232 or RS-485 port for connection to foreign systems such as Building Management Systems. This port is to be used for primary or secondary monitoring of the MXL(s) by the foreign system. Control of the MXL is not allowed through this port. All MXL menu functions are supported and available to the foreign system. The communication is bi-directional and includes handshakes to verify that data sent by the MXL has been received by the monitoring system. The information available from this auxiliary port is software selectable in the MXL’s CSGM program. UL and CUL Listed, and FM, NYMEA, City of Chicago and CSFM Approved.
