Biach RPV Light Weight Self-Contained Tensioner SCT

The Biach Light Weight Self-Contained Tensioner (SCT) is used to tighten reactor pressure vessel head studs. It brings greater safety, reduces manpower, lowers dose and shortens tensioning as a critical task. The quick latch/unlatch design is based on over 50 years of field-proven use. Power needed is 460-480 VAC at 10 amps. Communication uses a high-speed industrial network protocol over Cat 5 Ethernet cable bundled with the power distribution cable. Pressurization time is less than 20-30 seconds per stud; accuracy is ±15 psi at up to 18,000 psi (about 1241 bar). Safety features include electronic limit switches verifying full latch, checking piston overstroke and monitoring piston return, secondary seals, text instructions on an LCD screen, a high pressure safety valve and an emergency stop button on each control panel.
